We always like to visit San Francisco. Having been there in 2001 and in 2010, it was great to go back . The first time we were there was in December 2001 and we only had one day to visit. The second time was in July 2010, for a few baseball games and little time for tourism. This time, I was prepared with a list of places I did not want to miss. Of course, there was one Spanish Mission to see . Mission San Francisco de Asis or Mission Dolores is the oldest standing structure in SF. This Mission was founded in June 1776. It was the 6th of 21 California Missions established by Father Junipero Serra.
Besides the mission is the Basilica of SF, completed in 1918. It has an extravagantly decorative interior and beautiful stained glass window.
We also visited Grace Cathedral on California Street. The building was inspired by Notre-Dame in Paris. We spent at least one wonderful hour there . Walking the labyrinth, looking at the Ghiberti doors, admiring the stained glass and murals. We really enjoyed discovering this place. I would like to be there other time to listen to the choir or classical music concerts. The Cathedral’s organ is one of the largest organs in the USA.
On my next post , I will bring you to other areas of San Francisco.
